No Blaze of Glory
Written by Zelda
Kinda had an Evanescence bit of feel to this piece when I thought about how it would sound in song. Haven’t heard too much of their music, so I wouldn’t quite know, but that influence really kicks in with the bridge.
And she can feel her spirit breaking
As the blood runs down her face
And her body’s hollow aching
For anything to take the place
Of the crushing vise of failure
And she can’t get out of this bind
Of the task that seems to tail her
And the burden grows with time
And her heart is growing weary
And its beating and beating it’s beating (her down)
And its gaze is on her nearly
While the claws of defeat and denial swing ‘round
Yet she can’t lead herself to dodge over
With no will and no reason to treason her on
And no victory serves to console her
Win or lose she will cease to see the new dawn
Well it all falls down
Dust to dust
It’s only time
It all falls down
Slowly faltering beneath the fault of the mind
And there wil be no blaze of glory
As your blood falls to the floor
And no one to sing your story
Dust to dust and nothing more
Only time
And decay
Failure ends at the jaws of your grave
And the bones are cracking, the muscle is giving
(up)
As it’s feeding on all of the will to survive
And the power of spirit that’s barely living (up)
Rises like bile to keep her alive
To take eye for eye, red in tooth and in claw
Wings spread wide as the limbs of a matriarch tree
And the vise is crushed in by a far stronger maw
The grave staved off by sacrifice of victory
